Process:
The Knights are a demonstration of clear metallic techniques on scale models. The insect shell candy coat effect is a function of how light is absorbed as it transmits through each layer of paint.
Process:
I start by painting an effect of steel or metallic armour, with a base, shade, and highlight. Any highlights or shadows will eventually contribute to the final tonality. Then I pre-shade with blue and green. The process works by allowing each color to absorb light as it passes through each layer.
Process:
After a base, shade, and edging for the steel armor effect, followed by controlled pre-shading application of green and blue, multiple light coats of red are then applied until the desired result is achieved.
Process:
Batch processing speeds up the process but it still takes hours.
Two contracting factors need to be balanced:
Process:
It will feel like it will never end. This cycle of airbrush took about many hours in its entirety. Batch processing so many models at once makes this easier to streamline since the sheer volume of parts to airbrush means that parts would dry in the time between coats as kept working non-stop.
