The Rooftop - Central Arena

The central "rooftop" and main arena between the two fortresses (Red and Blue).

The cool blue ambient BSP lighting I baked into the level in 1998 remains, but with the addition of modern HDRI texturing and GL reflections we finally see a golden hour sunset. Not bad for 20 year old atmospheric 3D lighting!

Opposite view from the sun. A hint of warmth just grazes the top of the structures from the HDRI mapped sunset behind.

Fallhaven 2: The Vents

Each fortress had its own arena. A key gameplay feature of Rooftop Conflict was the choice to risk using the fans as a shortcut.

A well-timed leap and you are home free!

Time it poorly and you are gibbed! Then came a second choice imposed on the defending team if the flag thief made it through the fans; suddenly defenders had to choose to follow.

Red Side entry foyer.

This chamber was a moderately sized 90-degree bend before the large double doors that opened into the base-side roof arena. Health, ammo, and some armor. For defenders it was a good place to hold and defend. For attackers it was a good place to refresh before a push.

Main corridors. Between Red Side's entry foyer (opposite) and Blue-Side's lower vent maintenance access shortcut (behind).

This room and these platforms connected from the central upper roof decks to the vent shortcuts and the main base entry foyers. The elevation allowed for rocket jumpers and harpooning players (using the CTF mode harpoon) to leap up quickly.

Fallhaven 2: The Fans

A shortcut to victory or a gruesome end? This view is from below the Red Side arena area. With the CTF grappling hook a player could even attempt a daring flag steal attempt. Just as with those unfortunates jumping from above, and poorly timed unfortunate created a gory gib-fest that was spectacular to witness fun from below!
